| The old part of the city is situated inside the still existing Roman walls.What once was the Roman Forum is now the site of a 13th Century Cathedral. The "golden" church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, so called because of its gold-leaf woodwork, contains a chapel adorned with the bones from over 1.000 monks! Faro is also the home of the Ria Formosa natural reserve park, more then 17.000 hectares in size and a stopping place for hundreds of different migratory birds.'. |
