built this church, in red sandstone, at the end of the 13th century on the site of the old mosque. The style is Gothic with a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross with three naves and a main portal similar to that of the Monastery of Batalha. Its main features are the vault and the tomb of Dom

. He died in Alvor, was buried in the cathedral in Silves and two years later the body was brought to the monastery in Batalha. The mortal remains of bishops and noblemen of Silves lie under the floor of the aisles and in the walls.
