In the 18th century Albufeira was hit by earthquakes, inclusive the big earthquake in the year 1755, and in a bad condition. Only towards the end of the 19th century, the economy improved again because of fishing and the fish canning industry. The rise of tourism began in the 60's and transformed the city in a vacation metropole, one of the main tourist centers of Portugal. Albufeira, with more than 30 km of beaches, is a paradise for the visitor who not only seeks the sun but also wants to enjoy the famous nightlife of the city. |
