The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora de Alva, also called Igreja Nova, was built after the destruction of the previous Mother Church of Aljezur by the earthquake in the year 1755. The church possesses retables of the 18th century taken from the old convent of Nossa Senhora do Desterro, in Monchique.
